***** I have quite a bit to say about this track, but firstly I want to start off by saying for a 17 year old she has an incredible amount of talent. No Disney act has been able to showcase the singing, dancing and acting prowess that she possesses. You always hear about the likes of Demi, Miley, Selena and now Bridgit Mendler, but I had never really taken notice of who Zendaya was, hence why it took me so long to actually listen to this track. I have only ever seen one episode of the show she is on as my sister is obsessed with it, and this is the first time I have heard her sing and seen her dance, and I am quite impressed. I mean vocally she isn't as good as Demi, Miley and Selena, but as a performer it looks like she can dance unlike the other three (I mean yes Selena can dance I think, but not to the level of Zendaya).
The next thing I want to say, is that it is great to see someone from Disney come out with a track like this as their debut. Though the meaning and lyrics is pretty similar, it's not the typical pop/rock debut that we usually hear from a debut of a Disney star. That said, the lyrics are rather generic but oh well the RnB feel certainly makes up for it. Also, I hope someone else hears it too and it's not just me, but the chorus and the way that the lyrics are structured in the chorus is almost identical to Keri Hilson's Energy, I mean it's not as good as Energy, but it is identical!
The only thing about this song that urks me is that at the end of the chorus she doesn't finish her line and say "replay", she just says "wanna put this song on..". I mean its nothing major, but it annoys me a little, and everytime it comes on it distracts me from listening to the ensuing 20 seconds of the song because I'm wondering if "replay" is the word that was going to go in there (though it seems obvious :P).
I love the video too. Though billbeast is right and it is very Me & U, I just can't help but love it, and the dancing she does in the second half of the video also makes me like the song even more! Anyway, after only a couple of days worth of listens it's very good, and could grow to the point where it hits #1 on my PC. Last edited: 03.02.2014 10:56
** While this certainly isn't bad there are still many aspects that can be improved. This is also certainly not bad for a debut single either, but I do find it quite underwhelming. I also think it's trying too hard to sound like something edgy, which falls spectacularly unsuccessful. Finally, I guess the overarching factor for me is that this style of music has never interested me and I would rather spend my time elsewhere.
****** I am very surprised of the popularity of this song here. It did absolutely NOTHING in the US, so why here? The song is great though, a great job from a (former) Disney star's emerge into the industry.
